WINDHOEK, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's football coach Ricardo Mannetti said that their victory over Zimbabwe in the CAF African Nations Championship qualifiers played on Sunday in Windhoek was long over due.
Namibia beat Zimbabwe 1-0 after Namibian gunman Hendrick Somaeb scored the only goal of the match on the 47th minute mark.
In statement on Sunday, Mannetti said he prayed and hoped that Zimbabwe did not spoil the brilliant goal and the memorable occasion for the country.
"We played well and got the result, we now have to prepare for the second leg and again we remain underdogs and have to play above ourselves again like we did. They will be at home and have depth and we have to counter that," said Mannetti.
Namibia and Zimbabwe will renew their rivalry on July 23 at the International Sports Stadium, in Harare for the second round second leg match.
The winner of the tie will face either Comoros or Lesotho in the third and final round for the road to Kenya 2018.
Meanwhile going into the second leg next Sunday in Harare, Mannetti said he remains optimistic of disappointing the recently crowned COSAFA champions, Zimbabwe. Enditem
