TIRANA, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Albania has witnessed an increase of cultural tourism during this summer season, according to a statement made by Albanian Economy Minister Milva Ekonomi Friday.

"Albania has many castles, museums and archaeological parks and each of them has a history to tell to domestic and foreign visitors," Ekonomi said.

Among the castles, the castle of Kruja remains one of the top destinations of foreign tourists visiting Albania.

The growing interest in Albania's cultural spots is confirmed also by the statistics released by Albania's Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).

According to INSTAT, the number of foreign citizens who have entered Albania for holiday purpose increased by 2.4 times year-on-year in the first six-month period of the year, while a significant number of these visitors have chosen cultural monuments to visit.

The increase of the number of the foreign tourists signals another good season for tourism following the positive indicators of last year.

Meanwhile, Bank of Albania data for 2016 showed that Albanian economy benefited 1.5 billion euros (1.7 billion U.S. dollars) revenues from tourism, or about 15 percent of the GDP, the highest value ever. Enditem
