BEIJING -- President Xi Jinping said China will continue its efforts to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and promote national development in a more efficient, fair, and sustainable way.

He made the remarks in a congratulatory letter Monday for the launch ceremony of China's international development knowledge center, which aims to facilitate study and exchanges on development theory and practice.

BEIJING -- China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Monday the country will take "all appropriate measures" to defend its legal interests in response to a U.S. trade investigation that has aroused tension between the world's two largest economies.

Without specifying those measures, an MOC spokesperson said China will keep an eye on the investigation in a statement.

BEIJING -- The visit of Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli to Kuwait will mark the deepening of ties between the two nations, Kuwaiti Ambassador to China Sameeh Johar Hayat said.

The visit, starting Monday, will involve the signing of a number of agreements, the ambassador told Xinhua.

BEIJING, -- Military cooperation between the United States and Japan must not harm any third party's interests or regional peace and stability, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Monday.

Media reported that Japan wants to introduce a land-based missile defense system, and in response the Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford said the United States will help Japan in this regard, noting that it is important to integrate their ballistic missile defence capabilities.

BEIJING -- China's new-generation high-speed bullet train, the "Fuxing," was put into operation Monday on two railway lines connecting the major cities in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area.

The high-speed service marks a key step in integrated transportation services within the region as the Chinese government seeks coordinated economic development between the three areas.

JINAN -- A group of 16 Chinese and two European astronauts completed sea survival training in waters off the coast of Yantai in east China's Shandong Province Monday.
