CARACAS, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela's opposition leader and governor of the western state of Miranda, Henrique Capriles, denied on Monday any links with illicit payments from the Brazilian construction company, Odebrecht.

"I repeat: I have never signed anything or had any relation with Odebrecht. Those who can speak of this are in the government. They do this so they will not be held accountable," Capriles said via Periscope, a live video streaming app.

Odebrecht's former director in Caracas, Euzenando Azevedo, recently told investigators that he provided illicit funding for Capriles' 2013 presidential campaign.

Capriles, who insisted that the allegations sought to ruin his reputation, said:" No party told me what to do or say."

Some media outlets in Venezuela recently published information which was already released in May in Brazil, stating that Capriles received bribes from Odebrecht.

Odebrecht, Latin America's largest construction conglomerate, has been found to have paid out millions of dollars in bribes to politicians across the region in exchange for public contracts. Enditem
