SINGAPORE, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander Scott Swift visited sailors wounded in Monday's destroyer collision at the Singapore General Hospital on Tuesday.

The USS John S. McCain collided with a oil tanker Alnic MC on the seas off the eastern side of Singapore on Monday morning, leaving 10 sailors missing and five others injured.

Of the injured, four were sent by helicopters to the hospital, while the other one with minor injury stayed with the damaged destroyer which managed to sail back to the Singapore's Changi Naval Base at Monday noon.

Swift is scheduled to throw a press conference on Tuesday evening at the base, according to the U.S. Embassy in Singapore.

Search for the missing was still underway. The U.S. side has declined to reveal details of the missing and injured on grounds of privacy.

In the aftermath of Monday's collision, the second in two months involving the Pacific-based U.S. 7th Fleet, U.S. Navy Admiral John Richardson, the chief of naval operations, ordered an "operational pause" and a fleet-wide safety review study which will include "operational tempo, performance, maintenance, equipment and personnel."

In June, the USS Fitzgerald collided with a container ship in waters off Japan, leaving seven sailors dead. Enditem
