BEIRUT, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- A northern town in Lebanon on Tuesday ordered all Syrian refugees living there to leave after the murder of a Lebanese young woman by a Syrian worker.
Following the warning by the Municipal Council of Lebanon's northern town of Meziara, about 400 Syrian families of the more than 1,000 living in the mostly Christian town have left, according to Maroun Dina, head of the municipal council.
The rest of the families will be leaving in the coming few days, he added.
"The town is witnessing a state of discontent due to the rape killing of the 26-year-old Raya Chidiac by a Syrian refugee working in her family's house," Dina told Xinhua.
Chidiac was laid to rest on Monday amid calls from the town's citizens to expel all Syrians living there.
On Tuesday, the Municipal Council issued a statement requiring all citizens in Miziara "to abolish all the work agreements and annul all the sponsoring contracts they have with Syrian workers by 5:00 p.m." local time.
The Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) arrested the 26-year-old Syrian killer before he tried to escape the town.
The killer has confessed his crime, ISF said in a statement Tuesday. Enditem
