HOUSTON, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- William J. Berger, CEO of Sunnova Energy Corp. said here Thursday that the price of solar energy has fallen 95 percent in less than nine years.

In his speech during the first Global Energy Transitions Summit, co-hosted by the Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies and Baker Botts LLP at Rice University, Texas of the United States, Berger said the solar energy has become the cheapest source of energy today.

He believed that China has its advantage in terms of battery development and manufacturing, which is ahead of the United States.

Sunnova was founded in 2012 by a team of entrepreneurs who have built Sunnova into one of the top residential solar providers in the United States.

Solar energy is an important part of renewable-energy, the development of which has been accelerated in the United States in 2016.

Together, all renewable-energy sources are expected to account for 8 percent of U.S. electricity-generation capacity in 2017, according to the Department of Energy, and solar energy is responsible for most of that growth.

The one-day Global Energy Transitions Summit, held in Houston, the United States, features over a dozen prominent speakers from oil, gas and power industries -- including CEOs and other corporate leaders, along with industry experts in finance, investment and law -- covering topics from oil, gas to electricity, renewables and technology.
