LUANDA, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Signs in some gas stations saying "no fuel" and car queues spanning hundreds of meters in others remained the scenario on Sunday in Angola's capital Luanda.

Petrol stations in Luanda have been experiencing fuel shortages since Thursday.

Sonangol, the state-owned national oil company, said Saturday in a note that there was a delay in the distribution of fuel in the capital due to "operational problems related to logistics."

Nevertheless, the oil company underlined that "there is no substantial problem in the fuel supply in Luanda."

News about a fuel shortage emerged in March when Sonangol announced a delay in payment to international suppliers.

Sonangol is a state owned oil company led by Isabel dos Santos, daughter of the ex-president, Jose Eduardo dos Santos who stepped down after 38 years of rule.

Angola is the second largest African oil producer with 1.6 million barrel a day, but now faces an economic and financial crisis due to the sharp decline of crude oil prices in the international market.

Poor oil refinery has resulted in the country importing oil and other related products despite its vast crude-oil resources. Enditem
