BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.06 percent, at 3,380.7 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.6 percent higher at 11,306.31 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.99 percent to close at 1,898.76 points.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market ended lower on Monday, despite firmer oil prices and a strong start to morning trade.

At the close, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 13.00 points or 0.22 percent at 5,894.00, while the broader All Ordinaries index fell 11.40 points or 0.19 percent at 5,957.20.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.86 percent lower on Monday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 72.63 points to 8,348.32. The all-share index went down by 28 points, or 0.57 percent, to 4,885.79.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Monday up 0.41 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 4.20 points to reach 1,028.13 points after closing.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended slightly higher on Monday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched up 0.51 points, or 0.02 percent, to settle at 2,490.05. Trading volume stood at 272 million shares worth 4.7 trillion won (4.2 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 820.04 points on Monday, down 6.8 points, or 0.82 percent, against last Friday's closing session.

About 210.654 million shares worth 4.475 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (199.23 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 65 stocks went up, 218 stocks fell down, while 37 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 106.24 points on Monday, down 1.9 points or 1.76 percent against the previous trading session.

Over 50.060 million shares worth some 631.583 billion Vietnamese dong (some 28.1 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Monday, an increase of 18.2 percent in volume and 38.2 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 181.36 points, or 0.64 percent, to 28,305.88 points on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 28,253.32 and 28,557.8. Turnover totaled 88.03 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 11.28 billion U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Monday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,741.47 up 0.82 points or 0.05 percent, and the Emas was at 12,516.83 up 3.04 points or 0.02 percent.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed higher by 20.47 points, or 0.35 percent, to a level of 5,950.02 on Monday.

Some 357,741 transactions were booked, involving 9.1 billion copies of shares with a value of 6 trillion rupiah (about 443.1 million U.S. Dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Monday. Equity benchmarks gained strength, backed by Reliance Industries and ICICI Bank.
