PARIS, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- French shares edged up on Monday, with the benchmark Paris CAC 40 up 0.27 percent, or 14.43 points, to close at 5,386.81 points.

21 of the 40 selected large companies gained in the day.

STMicroelectronics, a French-Italian multinational electronics and semiconductor manufacturer, advanced 4.33 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. French multinational electric utility company Engie S.A. rose 2.10 percent. Steel giant ArcelorMittal gained 1.85 percent.

French multinational mass media conglomerate Vivendi went down by 1.61 percent, the top loser of the blue chips. French concessions and construction company Vinci lost 0.76 percent. French banking giant Societe Generale edged down 0.75 percent. Enditem
