KIEV, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's exports to Canada have seen a sharp increase this year due to the intensified business contacts and the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA), local media reported Monday, citing a senior Ukrainian government official.

Ukraine's Deputy Economic Development and Trade Minister Natalia Mykolska told reporters that in January through August this year, the exports have increased by 70.9 percent to 31.2 million U.S. dollars.

In 2017, Ukraine has started exporting 154 new commodity items to Canada and increased the supplies of traditional goods with a high-added value, she said.

"The strongest growth was recorded in the exports deliveries of liquid crystal devices, electric audio equipment, flour, rubber and plastics processing equipment, X-ray equipment and printing devices," Mykolska said.

Besides, Ukraine has boosted the sales of juice, honey and sunflower oil to Canada, she added.

The Canada-Ukraine FTA, which has entered into the force on Aug. 1, has immediately eliminated 98 percent of tariffs on Ukraine exports and 72 percent of duties on Canada exports. Enditem
