ABUJA, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian leader Muhammadu Buhari on Monday ordered the "disengagement" of a senior civil servant enmeshed in corruption-related controversies in the country.
The presidential order followed widespread criticism and call for the ouster of Abdulrasheed Maina, the embattled senior servant who was recently redeployed to the Ministry of Interior under controversial circumstances.
In a statement, Buhari demanded a full report of the circumstances of Maina's recall and posting to the Ministry of Interior as an acting director.
Maina once headed the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms. While occupying that office he was accused of misappropriating 100 billion naira (about 278 billion U.S. dollars) in pension funds in connivance with others.
He was arraigned, albeit in absentia, in 2015 by the country's top anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
That same year, Nigeria's Civil Service Commission reportedly dismissed him for "absconding from duty."
Last weekend, the EFCC said Maina remained on its wanted list. Enditem
