TOKYO -- The Japanese government on Friday reasserted its claim that U.S. military helicopters had flown over an elementary school in Japan's southernmost prefecture of Okinawa.

The U.S. Marine Corps in Okinawa denied however that three of its helicopters flew over an elementary school close to the controversial Marine Corps Futenma Air Station, despite Japan's defense ministry releasing video footage to the contrary. (Japan-U.S. Military)

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed 0.41 percent higher to 32,254.89 points on Friday, refreshing the record high for the third consecutive day.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 31,986.0 and 32,254.89, and closed at the highest level of the day, up 132.95 points compared with the previous trading day's close. (Hong Kong-Stocks)

KABUL -- Seventeen service members of the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission lost their lives in fighting Afghan insurgency in 2017, according to an independent website.

NEW DELHI -- At least 136 school children were taken ill after consuming contaminated meal in India's southern state of Kerala, officials said Friday.

The students from lower primary school at village Thonnakkal, about 24 km north of Thiruvananthapuram -- the capital of Kerala, were hospitalized Thursday night at Medical College SAT hospital after they complained of uneasiness showing symptoms of food poisoning. (India-Food Poisoning) Enditem
