WASHINGTON -- U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday signed a bill into law to renew a controversial foreign intelligence surveillance program.

The bill, known as Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which was set to expire on Friday, now got a six-year extension. "The Act renews the authority of the United States under section 702 of FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) to collect foreign intelligence on foreign targets overseas," the White House said in a statement.

"It also permits our Nation's defenders to share information that prevents terrorist attacks and cyber crimes," it said.(U.S.-Bill)

CAIRO -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi announced on Friday that he will run for re-election in the presidential elections scheduled in March.

Sisi made the announcement during the final day of "Story of a Nation" conference, where he presented his achievements over the past four years.

Egypt will hold its 2018 presidential race from March 26 to 28. The 10-day candidate registration will start on Jan. 20, while electoral campaigns will kick off on Feb. 24 and the result of the first round will be announced on April 2, according to the country's National Election Authority (NEA).(Egypt-Sisi-Elections)

WASHINGTON -- White House is preparing for a government shutdown, as the chances of a short-term government funding bill passed by the Senate are dimmed, said a White House official on Friday.

"OMB is preparing for what we're calling the Schumer Shutdown," said White House Office of Management and Budget Director (OMB) Mick Mulvaney at a press briefing on Friday.

The White House is blaming Senate Democratic leader Charles Schumer standing in the way for the Senate to pass the stopgap spending bill which has already been approved by the House of Representatives on Thursday night on largely party lines.(U.S.-Government-Funding) Enditem
