Afghan gov't forces kill 70 insurgents in southern Uruzgan province

TRINKOT, Afghanistan , Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least 70 armed insurgents have been killed and 15 others wounded during the security forces operations in Uruzgan province, south of Afghanistan, since Thursday, a local security official said Saturday.

"At least 70 militants have been killed in the restive areas of Uruzgan province since Thursday and 15 others wounded as crackdown against enemies has been continuing," Khawja Yahya Alavi, an army spokesman in the southern region, told Xinhua.

A total of 12 hideouts of the insurgents have also been destroyed during the operations backed by air power, the official added.

Taliban militants haven't commented on the report. Enditem
