BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.63 percent, at 3,289.02 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.04 percent higher at 10,662.79 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.53 percent to close at 1,668.83 points.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed higher by 26.74 points, or 0.39 percent, to a level of 6,662.87 on Friday.

Some 391,170 transactions were booked, involving 15.7 billion copies of shares with a value of 9.1 trillion rupiah (about 665.6 million U.S. Dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved up 19.43 points, or 1.09 percent to close at 1,808.06 points.

Some 19.01 billion shares worth 58.52 billion baht (about 1.86 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,861.50 up 6.43 points or 0.35 percent, and the Emas was at 13,313.78 up 37.02 points or 0.28 percent.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Friday. Equities have ended the day on a strong note, with the Sensex gaining over 300 points. Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Yes Bank and UPL gained the most on both indices, while Asian Paints, Infosys, and GAIL were the top losers.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 34,142.15, 322.65 points or 0.95 percent up compared to its previous close at 33,819.50.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 301.49 points, or 0.97 percent, to 31,267.17 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 31,149.318 and 31,386.811. Turnover totaled 103.30 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 13.21 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday as U.S. shares rebounding overnight brightened the market mood with investors buying on dips following recent retreats also adding support.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 156.34 points, or 0.72 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 21,892.78.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 1,102.85 points on Friday, up 26.82 points, or 2.49 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 189.076 million shares worth 6.044 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (269.33 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 197 stocks went up, 96 stocks fell down, while 45 stocks remained unchanged.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.56 percent lower on Friday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 48.01 points to 8467.56. The all-share index went down by 23.63 points, or 0.47 percent, to 5063.56.

SEOUL, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Seoul shares ended higher Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) advanced 37.24 points, or 1.54 percent, to settle at 2,451.52. Trading volume stood at 295.96 million shares worth 5.25 trillion won (4.87 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Friday, up 1.38 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 12.98 points to reach 952.2 points after closing.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Friday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index down 0.64 point, or 0.19 percent, to close at 340.68 points.

A total of 20 shares worth 90,000 riel (22 U.S. dollars) were traded.

SYDNEY -- The Australian shares have ended higher on Friday, with stronger commodity prices and a positive lead from overseas markets driving the index.
