ISLAMABAD, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Police foiled a terror attack attempt by diffusing a hand grenade here on Tuesday afternoon, police and local Urdu TV channel reported.

A local police official said that a police patrol found the hidden bomb in the I-10 sector of the capital and called in the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) to diffuse it.

According to police, the BDS personnel successfully defused the recovered bomb as it was active and could blow at any moment.

Police's timely action saved the country's capital from an untoward incident, said local TV channel Geo News while quoting security officials, adding that an investigation has been kicked off into the incident for suspect arrest.

Forensic experts have also reached the area and collected fingerprints on the bomb and other evidences, the report added.

Earlier in April, a major terrorism attack was foiled by the law enforcement agencies in Islamabad when two suicide jackets along with arms and ammunition were recovered during an operation. Enditem
