BRUSSELS, June 19 (Xinhua) -- Ninety-five suspects were arrested in an international operation against online fraud, the European Police Office (Europol) said in a press release Tuesday.

The 2018 e-Commerce action from June 4 to 15 was supported by 28 countries within the European Union and beyond, and coordinated by Europol's European cybercrime center.

The suspects arrested during the joint operation were responsible for more than 20,000 fraudulent transactions, with an estimated value exceeding 8 million euros (9.2 million U.S. dollars).

Investigations found that the fraudsters purchased the credit card data from the dark web. Not only individual fraudsters but organized crime groups are involved in online fraud.

There are indications of links to other forms of crime like phishing, malware attacks, and using websites and social media platforms for frauds, according to the Europol. Enditem
