Many Vietnamese hospitalized in heat wave

HANOI, July 4 (Xinhua) -- There has been an increasingly bigger number of people in Vietnam who are hospitalized in recent days due to hot weather, Vietnam News Agency reported on Wednesday.
The Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in central Nghe An province on July 2 and 3 recorded almost 1,800 children coming for medical checks-up and treatment, mainly for pneumonia, bronchitis, diarrhea and scarlet fever.
The Dong Da General Hospital in Hanoi received 700-800 patients for checks-up and treatment each day during the past week, 200 higher than the figure in normal days. Elderly patients account for 70 percent of the total.
The Vietnamese Health Ministry on Tuesday sent a warning to provincial and city-level health departments, hospitals and health centers, asking them to step up monitoring weather forecast and implementing medical examinations.
The severe heat wave that has scorched Vietnam's northern and central regions since last weekend is predicted to end on Friday, but until then the localities will continue to suffering from a high temperature of 38-40 degree Celsius, authorities said on Wednesday. Enditem
