LUSAKA, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Wednesday.
-- Zambian Vice-President Inonge Wina says the introduction of the HIV Testing, Counseling and Treatment program last year has resulted in a 20-percent increase in the number of people who know their status.
She said 3.1 million people tested for HIV in the first and second quarters of this year compared to 2.5 million in the same period last year due to the policy shift. (Times of Zambia)
-- About 3,000 smallholder farmers in Zambia will benefit from an initiative in which organic fertilizer and veterinary products from the United States will be imported into the country at a cost of 300,000 U.S. dollars.
Boyd Moobwe, Director of the Small Scale Farmers Development Agency, said the move, being done in collaboration with some U.S. based organizations, was expected to contribute towards economic sustainability among the smallholder farmers in four of the country's 10 provinces. (Daily Nation) Enditem
