U.S.-listed Chinese firms trade higher

NEW YORK, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher on Monday with all of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Shares of TAL Education Group and New Oriental Education & Technology Group rose 4.88 percent and 3.23 percent, respectively, outperforming others in the top 10 stocks of the index.

U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday amid hopes for the development of the U.S.-China trade talks.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 89.37 points, or 0.35 percent, to 25,758.69. The S&P 500 climbed 6.92 points, or 0.24 percent, to 2,857.05. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 4.68 points, or 0.06 percent, to 7,821.01.

The Cboe Volatility index, widely considered the best fear gauge in the stock market, decreased 1.19 percent to 12.49 on Monday.

As of Friday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 2,865.88, marking a 9.11-percent decrease for the month-to-date returns and a 7.28-percent loss for the year-to-date returns. Enditem
