NEW YORK, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday amid hopes for the development of the U.S.-China trade talks.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 89.37 points, or 0.35 percent, to 25,758.69. The S&P 500 climbed 6.92 points, or 0.24 percent, to 2,857.05. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 4.68 points, or 0.06 percent, to 7,821.01.

The Dow advanced with Nike and Johnson & Johnson outperforming. Shares of the companies rose 3.05 percent and 1.79 percent, respectively, at market closing.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors closed higher, with materials and energy leading.

The Nasdaq gained modestly, as the rise in Netflix offset the decline of other major U.S. tech giants including Facebook.

U.S. stocks traded on an upbeat note for three consecutive sessions and this week could be record-setting for Wall Street.

On Wednesday, the bull market turns 3,453 days old. Barring a 20-percent decline between now and then, it would mark the longest bull market in history, according to S&P. Enditem
