LISBON, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- The crash of a small airplane in Tires, Cascais near Portuguese capital Lisbon in April last year was due to the "failure of the pilot to maintain control of the aircraft after the loss of power in the left engine," said an investigation report revealed on Monday.

The final report of the Office of Prevention and Investigation of Accidents with Aircraft and Rail Accidents (GPIAAF) also determined as a contributing factor to the disaster "the lack of adequate training of the pilot, within the context of the actual emergency critical engine failure immediately after take-off ".

The report, however, states that the causes of the left engine failure of the twin engine plane "could not be determined due to impact damage and intense fire."

On April 17 last year, the two-engine small plane which bound for Marseilles, France, crashed into a LIDL supermarket after it took off from the Tires Municipal Aerodrome, Cascais near Lisbon.

The pilot of French nationality and three other French passengers as well as a Portuguese truck driver, who was unloading goods at the supermarket located in a densely populated area, were killed. Enditem
