BUENOS AIRES, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Boca Juniors were dethroned as leaders of Argentina's top-flight standings for the first time in 617 days on Monday after a 2-0 defeat to Estudiantes.

Halftime substitute Fabian Noguera headed in the hosts' first goal just before the hour mark after Leandro Morel's flick-on from a corner.

Matias Pellegrini doubled the lead with a low shot from outside the box 15 minutes from time.

The result at the Centenario stadium in La Plata lifted Estudiantes to sixth in the 26-team Argentina Superliga standings after two rounds while Boca dropped to 11th.

The Buenos Aires giants had occupied top spot since their 4-2 defeat of rivals River Plate on December 11, 2016.

In Monday's only other match, Union Santa Fe drew 1-1 at San Martin de Tucuman. Enditem
