QUITO, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Ecuador will be without their Europe-based players for friendlies against Jamaica and Guatemala next month, coach Hernan Dario Gomez said on Monday.

Gomez, who took charge of Ecuador for a second time last month after parting ways with Panama's national team, said the squad would be made up solely of players with clubs from the Americas.

"I am going to put together a team with our players in Mexico, here [in Ecuador], in the US and maybe from Brazil and Argentina as well," Hernan told a news conference.

The decision will avoid unsettling Manchester United defender Antonio Valencia, Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo and Swansea City winger Jefferson Montero, among others, as they start new seasons with their respective clubs, Gomez said.

"It will also allow us to take a look at others. We want to increase our pool of players," he added.

Ecuador, who failed to qualify for this year's World Cup in Russia, will play Jamaica in New Jersey on September 7 and Guatemala in Illinois four days later. Enditem
