PHNOM PENH, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Tuesday held a consultation forum with leaders of 16 political parties after his ruling party won a sweeping victory in a recent general election.

Twenty political parties - Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and 19 other parties - contested in the sixth general election on July 29. The official results indicated that the CPP won all 125 seats in the parliament.

Four political parties - the League for Democracy Party, the Grassroots Democratic Party, the Anti-Poverty Party, and the Motherland Party - did not take part in the consultation forum.

Speaking at the forum held at his office, the Peace Palace, Hun Sen said he met with them in his capacity as the prime minister, not in his capacity as the CPP's president.

He expressed his intention to create a Supreme Council for Consultations between the government and political parties in order to seek constructive ideas for national development.

"The participation from political parties is really important to help (the government) develop the nation," the prime minister said.

He said a new parliament and a new government will be formed on Sept. 5 and 6, respectively. Enditem
