JERUSALEM, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- An Israeli report said on Wednesday that a new customized treatment has been developed for melanoma, which can increase the chances of recovery to more than 50 percent.

The new treatment may significantly improve the ability of immune cells to identify and destroy cancer cells, said the report published by the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Melanoma skin cancer recovery rates have increased significantly in recent years due to new immunotherapy treatments that harness immune cells to fight cancer.

At present, the immunotherapy therapies are based on two methods, but neither will lead to the elimination of cancer if immune cells fail to read the "signs" that mark the cancer cells as a foreign factor to fight, the report said. Enditem
