MADRID, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Zara owner Inditex earned 1.4 billion euros (1.63 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half of the fiscal year (from Feb. 1 to July 31), the company reported on Wednesday.

The figure meant a 3 percent increase when compared with the same period of a year earlier, when the company had earned 1.36 billion euros.

The company highlighted that the results were "underpinned by growth across all of its geographical markets", while its sales reaching 12.03 billion euros surpassed for the first time in its history the 12 billion euros.

"The strong first-half is the result of a solid sales and operating performance, arising from the unique strength of the Group's integrated and sustainable business model," chairman and CEO of Inditex Pablo Isla said.

Inditex, which operates eight brands including Zara, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Pull&Bear, Stradivarius, Oysho, Zara Home and Uterqüe, had 7,422 stores in 96 markets by the end of the period. (1 euro=1.16 U.S. dollars). Enditem
