LUSAKA, Oct.2 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Tuesday.

-- The Zambian government says it has put in place sound fiscal measures to boost the country's foreign reserves to help stabilize the exchange rate.

Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary for Budget and Economic Affairs Emmanuel Pamu said there has been a drastic drop in international reserves, which currently stands at 1.8 billion U.S. dollars, adding that the measures put in place are aimed at increasing foreign exchange earnings. -- A Zambian firm has launched the world's first anti-mosquito paint that kills mosquitos when in contact.

Kalpana Abe, vice-president of Kansai Plascon, said the anti-mosquito paint works by disrupting the mosquitos' nervous system on contact, reducing its ability to remain on walls or fly away. (Times of Zambia)

-- The Zambian government has denied social media reports that it has granted an opposition leader from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) a diplomatic passport.

Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo said the reports were not true, as records show that the DRC opposition leader used an ordinary passport from his country when he visited Zambia recently. (The Mast)

-- The World Bank says Zambia's cost of external debt servicing has drastically risen by 643 million dollars in a four-year time period.

In its latest report on Zambia's economy, the World Bank says the government spent 706 million dollars on meeting external public debt servicing costs last year, up from only 63 million dollars in 2013. (News Diggers) Enditem
