UNITED NATIONS -- The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution Tuesday to allow Palestine deeper participation in its work as chair of the largest developing bloc at the United Nations.

At a plenary meeting of the 193-member body, the United States, Israel and Australia voted against the text entitled Chair of the Group of 77 for 2019, 15 members abstained, and an overwhelming 146 members voted in favor. (UN-Palestine-Resolution)

RABAT -- A train derailed Tuesday in northern Morocco, killing seven passengers and injuring 125 others, official sources said.

The train, which connects northern cities of Casablanca and Tangier, derailed at 10:10 a.m. local time (0910 GMT) in Sidi Bouknadel, a small town situated between the cities of Sale and Kenitra. (Morocco-Train Derailment)

ANKARA -- Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Tuesday said Turkey may interrogate officials at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul if needed.

"It is the responsibility of the Chief Prosecutors' Office to decide whom to interrogate or the questions to be asked ... The prosecutors may ask for the testimony of [any Saudi officials at the consulate] if needed," he said at a news conference in Ankara. (Turkey-Saudi-Missing Journalist)

PRAGUE -- Czech President Milos Zeman appointed Tomas Petricek as the new foreign minister on Tuesday, filling the diplomacy position in the minority coalition government of Prime Minister Andrej Babis three and a half months after it was appointed.

Prior to Petricek's appointment, Social Democratic (CSSD) chairman, deputy PM and Interior Minister Jan Hamacek had to head the foreign ministry temporiarily after Zeman refused to appoint the CSSD's original nominee, Miroslav Poche, to the post in June. (Czech Republic-FM-Appointment) Enditem
