ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Ethiopia's major media outlets on Friday.

-- Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on Thursday met Peter Sands, executive director of Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

The premier has appreciated the strong and sustained support and assured the fund his commitment to ensuring the use of the resources for intended purposes, according to Fitsum Arega, chief of staff at the Prime Minister's Office. (Fana Broadcasting Corporate/FBC)

-- Prime Minister Ahmed will pay his first official visit to Europe next week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.

In his weekly briefing to journalists, spokesperson of the ministry, Meles Alem, has said Abiy will pay his first official visit to Europe at the invitation of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emanuel Macron. (Ethiopian News Agency/ENA)

-- Tagesse Chafo has been appointed as speaker of the House of People's Representatives (Ethiopia's Parliament), replacing Muferiat Kamil.
