LUSAKA, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Thursday.
-- The Zambian government says there are 832 foreigners in the country who own guns.
Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo however said the foreigners who are established residents of the country are by law allowed to own firearms. (Daily Nation)
-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu has congratulated Ethiopia's new President Sal-Work Zewde on her election.
Lungu said in a congratulatory message that his government will work closely with Zewde, who was unanimously elected by the Ethiopian parliament on October 25 and becomes that country's first female president, to cement ties between the two countries. (Times of Zambia)
-- The African Development Bank (AfDB) has given Zambia 200 million U.S. dollars for construction of small dams across the country as part of efforts to promote irrigation schemes.
Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Permanent Secretary Edward Chomba said the project will help actualize government's irrigation agenda which was being implemented to boost national food security. (Zambia Daily Mail) Enditem
