NAIROBI, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- The following are the news highlights in Kenyan media outlets on Sunday.
-- The Kenyan government has written to at least seven countries seeking details on billions of U.S. dollars suspected to be stashed abroad by influential individuals, including prominent politicians and businessmen.
In a decisive step that marks renewed efforts after previous failed attempts to recover money hidden abroad, top officials said there will soon be nowhere to hide for those who have attempted to avoid scrutiny of local bank accounts by hiding money in foreign countries, some of which have a dubious reputation as safe havens for ill-gotten wealth. Some of the countries targeted are Australia, Dubai, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Mauritius. (Sunday Nation)
-- Revelations that the International Criminal Court (ICC) is still pursuing the Kenyan cases has stoked fresh fears within deputy president William Ruto's political camp as his 2022 juggernaut gathers momentum. At the heart of the fears is ICC prosecution's determined pursuit of witness tampering cases as their saving grace following collapse of the main cases against Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta a few years ago. -- The Federation of Public Transport Operators officials said they will withdraw their services nationwide starting from Monday to protest the enforcement of tough traffic rules, but the government said it will not back down. (The Star) Enditem
