ISLAMABAD, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistan Navy said that they had seized some 1,500 kilograms of hashish near the country's coastal town of Ormara in the Indian Ocean by involving persistent surveillance and intelligence gathering of the area.

The Pakistan Navy said in a statement on Monday that they seized a large quantity of hashish worth millions of U.S. dollars during an intelligence-based operation near Ormara, a coastal town located some 360 km in the west of the port city of Karachi.

"The successful seizure of hashish weighing about 1,500 kgs by the Pakistan Navy was an outcome of a coordinated and complex operation in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) of the country," said the statement.

The seized hashish was later handed over to the ANF for further legal procedure and disposal.

"The operation demonstrates that the Pakistan Navy is determined in thwarting the illegitimate use of our coastline and sea, and committed to shouldering national and international obligation to establish lawful order at sea across the Indian Ocean," the Navy added.

The Navy did not say whether any smuggler was arrested in the operation or not.

Earlier this year, the Pakistan Navy also seized over 5,000 kilograms of hashish worth millions of U.S. dollars and arrested a group of smugglers in another anti-narcotics operation. Enditem
