ISTANBUL, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Turkish prosecutors on Wednesday ordered the detention of 33 military personnel over their alleged links to a group accused of masterminding a coup bid in 2016, local media reported.

Police launched simultaneous operations in 19 provinces across the country to catch the suspects on the orders of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul, the broadcaster NTV said.

Those targeted in the operations include soldiers on active duty, and retired colonels and lieutenant colonels, according to the Sabah daily.

The Turkish government blames the network led by the U.S.-based Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen for the failed coup in July 2016, in which 250 people were killed. Enditem
