BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.05 percent, at 2,601.73 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.60 percent higher at 7,757.07 points.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 1.57 points, or 0.42 percent, to close at 375.94.

A total of 5,126 shares worth 28.8 million riel (7,147 U.S. dollars) were traded.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished flat on Wednesday with tech stocks offsetting a drop in materials and consumer discretionaries.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 3.20 points or 0.056 percent at 5,725.10, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 2.70 points or 0.047 percent at 5,800.10.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Wednesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 8.80 points, or 0.42 percent, to settle at 2,108.22. Trading volume stood at 274.5 million shares worth 4.6 trillion won (3.9 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.42 percent lower on Wednesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 31.20 points to 7,382.43. The all-share index went down by 15.38 points, or 0.35 percent, to 4,443.38.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Wednesday down 0.65 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 5.33 points to reach 814.98 points after closing.

A total of 94,600 shares worth about 45.14 million Lao kip (nearly 53,017 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 104.1 points on Wednesday, up 0.91 points or 0.88 percent from the previous trading session.

Prices of 77 stocks went up, 70 stocks dropped, while 227 stocks remained unchanged.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 930.20 points on Wednesday, up 7.08 points, or 0.77 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

Nearly 136.360 million shares worth 3.251 trillion Vietnamese dong (141.3 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange. Prices of 132 stocks rose, 147 stocks decreased, and 97 stocks remained unchanged.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday amid brightened market mood.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 224.62 points, or 1.02 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 22,177.02.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 9.50 points, or 0.58 percent, to finish at 1,653.66.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 350.60 points, or 1.33 percent, to 26,682.56 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,332.66 and 26,705.3. Turnover totaled 84.93 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 10.85 billion U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) went up 0.13 percent or 4.08 points to close at 3094.48.

A total of 2.17 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.03 billion Singapore dollars (about 747.86 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 225 to 146.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,686.55, up 1.58 points or 0.09 percent, and the Emas was at 11,686.61 up 14.14 points or 0.12 percent.

There were 401 gainers, 405 losers and 373 counters traded unchanged.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Wednesday as equities further extended gains from the opening with the Sensex rising over 200 points.

Among sectors, IT stocks led the rally with over 2 percent gain, while PSU bank, auto, FMCG and infra were trading lower.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 22.34 points, or 0.37 percent, to a level of 5,991.24 on Wednesday.

Some 439,405 transactions were booked, involving 12.7 billion copies of shares with a value of 9.6 trillion rupiah (about 660.7 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved up 6.36 points, or 0.39 percent to close at 1,640.63 points.
