HARARE, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Twelve people died on the spot on Sunday near Checheche Growth Point in Chipinge, south-eastern Zimbabwe, when a sugarcane haulage truck collided with a commuter omnibus, state media reported Monday.
The Herald newspaper said that the chairperson of the Chipinge District Civil Protection Unit, William Mashava, had confirmed the accident.
"Other injured passengers were taken to St Peter's Hospital for treatment." the official said.
This is the third major road accident in a month after 50 people died near Rusape, Manicaland Province, on Nov. 6, followed by another one on Nov. 15 near West Nicholson in the south-west of the country.
Police had initially said 42 people died in the West Nicholson accident but later revised the figure downward. Enditem
