BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.57 percent, at 2,654.80 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.34 percent higher at 7,938.47 points.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index on Monday moved up 30.81 points, or 1.88 percent to close at 1,672.61 points.

Some 12.97 billion shares worth 60.56 billion baht (about 1.85 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat on a positive note Monday.

Consumption, IT, metals and PSU banks were the big gainers, while pharmaceuticals were the big losers.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Monday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,699.72, up 19.86 points or 1.18 percent, and the Emas was at 11,736.26, up 131.92 points or 1.14 percent.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 951.59 points on Monday, up 25.05 points, or 2.70 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

On Monday, VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 921.72 points, up 26.93 points or 3.01 percent.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 107.64 points on Monday, up 2.81 points or 2.69 percent from the previous trading session.

Prices of 95 stocks went up, 57 stocks dropped, while 222 stocks remained unchanged.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 2.24 percent higher on Monday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 165.05 points to 7,532.90. The all-share index went up by 82.92 points, or 1.87 percent, to 4,524.25.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Monday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index extending its run of closing highs for a seventh straight day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 223.70 points, or 1.00 percent, from Friday to close the day at 22,574.76.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Monday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 35.07 points, or 1.67 percent, to settle at 2,131.93. Trading volume stood at 428.9 million shares worth 5.4 trillion won (4.9 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market surged on Monday.

At the market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 104.00 points or 1.84 percent at 5,771.20, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 107.00 points or 1.86 percent at 5,856.30.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished lower on Monday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index down 0.44 point, or 0.11 percent, to close at 389.05 points.
