ABUJA, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- One college worker was shot dead and eight others were abducted by unknown gunmen who stormed a technology campus in Nigeria's southern state of Osun, according to local authorities on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the college told Xinhua that the gunmen, who went on the rampage on Tuesday evening at the Osun College of Technology, had blocked the main entrance of the college campus and stopped several passing vehicles.

"The vehicles they stopped included those of the kidnapped victims," said college spokesperson Adewale Oyekanmi.

Oyekanmi said one victim was shot dead as he tried to escape from the scene at Esa-Oke area of Osun.

Folasade Odoro, a spokesperson for the police in Osun, also confirmed the incident to reporters, saying the police, together with other security agencies, were combing nearby bushes in search of the kidnapped college staff. Enditem
