LJUBLJANA, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia will make a contribution of 2.7 million euros for the second tranche of funding of the EU Facility for Refugees in Turkey between 2019 and 2023, the national media reported the government's decision on Thursday.

The contribution is in accordance with the timeline proposed by the European Commission as part of the action plan of cooperation with Turkey in the field of migration, said the Slovenian Press Agency STA.

Facing a major refugee crisis in 2015, the EU decided to enhance its cooperation with Turkey, adopting a joint action plan with two sets of measures -- aid for Syrian refuges in Turkey and measures to be taken by Turkey to prevent illegal migration.

In the first tranche the EU secured three billion euros for the Facility for Refugees in Turkey in 2016 and 2017, including one billion euros from the EU budget, while the rest were contributions by member states relative to their GDP. Slovenia contributed more than five million euros in the first tranche.

In June this year, the European Council approved a second tranche of three billion euros, with two billion euros coming from the EU budget and the rest from member states. Slovenia will chip in 2.726 million euros, said the STA report. Enditem
