RABAT, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- Morocco's coastguards have rescued 181 illegal immigrants in the Mediterranean between Tuesday and Thursday, the Moroccan army said in a statement.
The guards on patrol in the Mediterranean assisted eight boats, the army said, adding that two of the boats sank shortly after the illegal immigrants were saved.
The rescued, majority of whom came from sub-Saharan African nations, were brought safely to ports of Nador, Al Hoceima and Ksar Sghir, the army said.
Morocco has witnessed a significant hike in illegal immigration attempts in 2018.
According to the Moroccan Interior Ministry, the authorities have foiled over 76,000 illegal immigration attempts since the beginning of this year. Enditem
