MOMBASA, Kenya, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Qatar Airways on Sunday launched its inaugural flight to Mombasa, Kenya's main coastal tourist destination.

The airline will be operating four weekly flights to Mombasa, bringing the number of weekly flights between Doha and Kenya to a total of 25.

Betty Radier, CEO of the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB), described the move as "good news for the sector and... the private sector," say the KTB will look into ways of partnering with Qatar Airways and other airlines to bring in more passengers.

Radier said arrivals through Mombasa's Moi International Airport in the first nine months of this year, at 84,286, rose 46 percent over the number for the same period of last year, 57,588.

"We welcome the thousands additional seats and increased connectivity that will result from this new route as we seek to achieve our goal of attracting 4 million visitors by 2030," said Mombasa county tourism executive Fauz Rashid. Enditem
