KHARTOUM, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- The inflation rate in Sudan jumped to 68.93 percent in November compared with 68.44 percent in October, said Sudan's Central Statistics Bureau in a statement on Sunday.
The inflation rise was attributed to the hike in prices of commodities as meat, onion, oil and dairy products, the statement noted.
It said that the Red Sea state in eastern Sudan registered the highest inflation rate of 98.24 percent, while North Kordofan state registered the lowest inflation rate of 55.89 percent.
Khartoum State registered the second lowest rate of 59.68 percent, according to the statement.
Sudan has been suffering a dire economic crisis since the secession of South Sudan in 2011, which caused a loss of 75 percent of oil revenues.
On Dec. 19 last year, the Sudanese cabinet approved the budget for 2018, including new measures for cutting government spending, stopping new construction of government buildings, and barring payment of any incentives or rewards without a prior approval from the Ministry of Finance.
The budget aims to stimulate the country's GDP growth to reach 4 percent and bring inflation rate down to 19.5 percent. Enditem
