Indonesian province wins 8 gold medals in sub-regional sports event

JAKARTA, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian province of South Sulawesi earned eight gold, 18 silver and 15 bronze medals in the sub-regional sports event of BIMPNT-EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Northern Territory-East ASEAN Growth Area) Friendship Games, held in Brunei from Dec. 6 to 9, a statement released by the Indonesia Foreign Ministry said here on Monday.

The medals earned by Indonesia’s South Sulawesi province placed it in fifth place of the medal tally after Malaysia’s Sabah, the Philippines’ Mindanao, Australia’s Northern Territory and Brunei.

These medals came from swimming, running, martial arts, karate, taekwondo and sepak takraw.

“I hope our performances in Brunei this time would improve the experiences in facing regional sports events of SEA Games and Asian Games,” Indonesia Ambassador to Brunei Sudjatmiko said.

The biennial games was participated in by provinces and territories in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines and Australia.

The next BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games is scheduled to take place in the Philippines’ Davao City in 2020. Enditem
