DAMASCUS -- The Syrian authorities have uncovered seven mass graves with hundreds of bodies in a former Islamic State (IS) stronghold in eastern Syria, state news agency SANA reported on Tuesday.

Hundreds of unidentified bodies were found in the mass graves in the city of Abu Kamal in the southeastern countryside of Deir al-Zour province in eastern Syria, according to SANA. (Syria-Mass Grave)

GENEVA -- The year 2018 marks the fifth straight year that Mediterranean migrant arrivals to Europe has topped the 100,000 threshold, although this year's figure of the arrival of irregular migrants and refugees to Europe by sea is lower from previous years, the UN migrant agency said Tuesday.

SAO PAULO -- A gunman shot and killed four people at a church in Brazil on Tuesday before turning the gun on himself, according to local media.

ABUJA -- Four people have been confirmed dead following a recent outbreak of Lassa fever in a northeastern state of Nigeria, a health official confirmed on Tuesday.
