Singapore retail sales rise in October

SINGAPORE, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's retail sales increased by 0.1 percent year-on-year in October, compared to a re-calculated 1.9 percent increase in September, the Department of Statistics of Singapore announced on Wednesday.

The retail sales decreased by 0.4 percent month-on-month on a seasonally adjusted basis in October, remained at the same level as in the previous month.

The authority said excluding motor vehicles, retail sales of this October rose 0.5 percent year-on-year but drop 2.1 percent month-on-month.

Singapore's total retail sales value in October was estimated at 3.7 billion Singapore dollars (about 2.69 billion U.S. dollars). The estimated proportion of online retail sales to total retail sales is 5.3 percent.

Meanwhile, the sales of food and beverage services increased by 1.1 percent year-on-year but decreased by 0.7 percent month-on-month. The sales value was estimated at 710 million Singapore dollars (about 517 million U.S. dollars) in September. Enditem
