ADDIS ABABA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- A traffic accident in Ethiopia's Oromia regional state, located in the central part of the country has left 10 people dead, an Ethiopian official said on Wednesday.

Aschalewe Alemu, Public Relations Chief at East Shoa zone police department of Oromia regional state, said the accident happened on Wednesday morning when a passenger bus collided with a passenger minibus travelling on the opposite side of the road, leaving 10 people dead and seven others injured, reported state media outlet Ethiopia News Agency.

Alemu said the police has determined the cause of the accident to be reckless driving by drivers of both vehicles.

The driver of the passenger minibus was killed in the traffic accident, while police are on the manhunt for the driver of the passenger bus who fled the scene soon after the traffic accident.

Alemu called on drivers to respect traffic rules and regulations in order to avoid traffic accidents that cause human and material damages.

Despite having one of the lowest per capita car ownerships in the world, deadly traffic accidents in Ethiopia are common, with blames put on bad roads, a flawed driving license issuance system and lax enforcement of safety rules. Enditem
