BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.23 percent, at 2,634.05 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.43 percent higher at 7,808.04 points.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Thursday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 1.81 points, or 0.46 percent, to close at 399.

A total of 3,825 shares worth 25.7 million riel (6,391 U.S. dollars) were traded.

SYDNEY -- The Australian Share market was mostly flat on Thursday with telecommunications stocks continuing to offset gains throughout the day.

At the market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 8.10 points or 0.14 percent at 5,661.60 while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 8 points or 0.14 percent at 5,735.30.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 12.98 points, or 0.62 percent, to settle at 2,095.55. Trading volume stood at 368.2 million shares worth 7.6 trillion won (6.8 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.46 percent higher on Thursday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 34.68 points to 7522.92. The all-share index went up by 12.78 points, or 0.28 percent, to 4507.33.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 213.44 points, or 0.99 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,816.19.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 10.04 points, or 0.62 percent, to finish at 1,616.65.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 337.64 points, or 1.29 percent, to 26,524.35 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 26,314.77 and 26,581.93. Turnover totaled 79.31 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 10.15 billion U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 107.3 points on Thursday, down 0.37 points or 0.35 percent from the previous trading session.

Prices of 51 stocks went up, 84 stocks dropped, while 239 stocks remained unchanged.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.36 percent or 11.09 points to close at 3,111.08.

A total of 891.4 million shares changed hands with a turnover of 893.1 million Singapore dollars (about 651.8 million U.S. dollars). Gainers equaled losers at 186 to 186.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,676.00, up 12.73 points or 0.77 percent, and the Emas was at 11,507.99, up 72.13 points or 0.63 percent.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 62.14 points, or 1.02 percent, to a level of 6,177.72 on Thursday.

Some 461,287 transactions were booked, involving 13.5 billion copies of shares with a value of 10.1 trillion rupiah (about 696.6 million U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Thursday.
