KIEV, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Civilians affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine received humanitarian assistance from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), authorities said Thursday.

An ICRC convoy of eight trucks delivered more than 147 tons of aid to residents of non-government-controlled areas in Donetsk region, Ukraine State Border Guard Service said in a statement.

The relief supplies include food parcels, hygiene kits, stationery, construction materials and clothing, it said.

According to the United Nations, the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine, which has been underway since April 2014, left some 4 million people in need of humanitarian assistance. Enditem
