ATHENS, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The majority of Greeks (64.8 percent) feel pessimistic that the sacrifices they have made during the bailout programs implemented since 2010 to avert default will go in vain, according to the results of an opinion poll published on Thursday.

Greece exited the third bailout program this summer, but only 27.8 percent of respondents to the survey, carried out by MRB polling firm for Real.gr news website, believe that their sacrifices have paved the way for sustainable economic recovery.

Of the poll respondents, 69.6 percent said they were struggling to make ends meet, and 65.1 percent did not expect to see improvement in their household's finances any time soon.

Asked about the largest issues Greece currently faces, they mentioned unemployment (59.3 percent), the taxation system (45 percent), economic growth (36.9 percent), the health system (33.4 percent) and inflation (28.5 percent).

Asked what they felt, 54.4 percent said "anger," 46.5 percent "shame" and 42.3 percent "fear."

If general elections were held today, the main opposition conservative New Democracy party would win 31.3 percent of the vote, while the now ruling Coalition of the Radical Left (Syriza) would garner 23.3 percent.

The opinion poll was conducted on a sample of 2,000 voters across Greece between Nov. 28 and Dec. 6. Enditem
